When people speak of their eagerness for a second child, they often mention that it'll be fun for child number one to have a brother or sister to play with. For the first two years of George's life, I mourned the fact that George barely took any notice of Samuel and that the two weren't able to "play" together the way two typically developing brothers should have.

I love to teach, and I feel that being a mother is the greatest and most important teaching experience I'll ever have. I want to teach my children to love life, people and this beautiful world. Four days ago my dad was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. I'd never heard of CLL, but I knew what leukemia meant . . . it meant cancer. And cancer is scary especially when it attacks someone you love.
